We are looking for an Associate Scientist to contribute to the development and commercialisation of OXGENE technologies, advancing the delivery of new therapeutics, by assisting in the development and manufacture of innovative cell and gene therapy solutions. You will be part of Viral Cell Line Development (VCLD) team within the Biomanufacturing Services department working under the supervision of senior members/group leader and will be required to focus on various projects adjusting to team and business needs.

As Associate Scientist, you will be supporting the team to maintain and implement current manufacturing platforms, for both internal and commercial use. In particular, you will carry out routine maintenance of host and engineered cell lines, routine maintenance of VCLD lab facility and re-stocking, provide support to cell line development and viral screening production campaigns as required. As you will become familiar with our processes, you’ll be required to lead experiments autonomously, from design and planning to setup, data analysis and summary. You will also be required to contribute toward implementation of process, products and sample management.

In performing their duties, the Associate Scientist demonstrates strict adherence to standard operating procedures and Quality Assurance. The Associate Scientist is responsible for accurate record keeping ensuring data integrity and that work complies with recommended Health and Safety Guidelines.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintenance of VCLD host and engineered platforms and (revival, sub-culturing, cryopreservation, mycoplasma test sample preparation)
  • With guidance and under supervision, contribute to the design and execution of experiments (cell line engineering and development, viral production and analytical assays)
  • Generation and maintenance of accurate and traceable electronic records at all time
  • Contribution toward establishment of VCLD processes into ELN/LIMS platforms
  • Preparation of basic media, samples and reagents required for use in experiments
  • Testing of new materials and reagents as required
  • Providing experimental results analysis and project summaries (drafting data summaries and reports in timely manner for internal review and group discussion)
  • Presenting technical information to technical and non-technical audiences, supporting the writing of both scientific and marketing material
  • Ensuring laboratory equipment is maintained in a good working condition
  • General housekeeping of laboratories
  • Maintaining laboratory cleanliness to OXGENE standards
  • Ensuring safe working practices in laboratory work areas
  • Communicating and co-ordinating activities with colleagues and management
  • Complying with the company’s Quality Management Systems

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Essential Criteria:

  • Minimum BSc in relevant discipline (Molecular Biology, Genetics or Cell Biology
  • Demonstrable lab experience, including mammalian cell culture techniques
  • Demonstrable molecular biology and/or analytical assays skills including (PCR, qPCR, ELISA)
  • Ability to prioritise tasks to enable on time delivery with excellent self-organisation and initiative
  • Effective communication skills – reports on and communicates technical issues with clarity
  • Team player, supportive and pro-active attitude
  • Self-organisation, attention to details and ability to work under Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and supervision

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience working in a commercial/industry environment
  • Knowledge and experience of cell line engineering/developemnt, viral vector production and titration (rAAV and rLV)
  • Experience with electronic data recording system and sample management system (ELN, LIMS)
  • Experience with flow cytometry, cell based assays (immunostaining), further analytical assay (western blotting, colourimetric assays)
