You will be part of the Antibody Discovery team, utilising OXGENEs unique Mammalian Display platform (SLIM Display) to identify or affinity mature novel antibody therapeutics for on-going commercial programmes and collaborations.

The Associate Scientist contributes to the development and commercialisation of OXGENE technologies, advancing the delivery of our customers new therapeutics, by assisting in the discovery, development and manufacture of innovative cell and gene therapy solutions.  The primary role of the Associate Scientist is to contribute to the design and execution of experiments. The Associate Scientist will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to define and execute project goals and deliverables in line with planned project objectives.  

In performing their duties, the Associate Scientist demonstrates strict adherence to standard operating procedures, work instructions and QC processes. The Associate Scientist is responsible for accurate record keeping ensuring data integrity and that work complies with recommended Health and Safety Guidelines. 

Key responsibilities:

• With guidance and under supervision, contributing to the design and execution of mammalian display experiments and campaigns to meet timelines in collaboration with other team members and ensure completion of project targets for commercial partners.
• Maintenance and lentiviral transduction of suspension cell lines
• Immunostaining and flow cytometry analysis
• Magnetic nanobead selection and fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) on mammalian cell cultures.
• Cell screening by flow cytometry to identify clone hits
• Small scale production of scFv or IgG formats to validate the antibody candidates
• Provide accurate record keeping at all times.
• Providing experimental results analysis and project summaries
• Complying with company’s quality management systems

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Essential Criteria:

• Minimum BSc in a relevant area (e.g., Cell Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology)
• Demonstrable lab experience, including mammalian cell culture techniques and flow cytometry
• Ability to prioritise tasks to enable on time delivery with excellent self-organisation and initiative
• Excellent attention to detail
• Good written and oral communication, competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications for preparing spreadsheets, reports, and other documentation.
• Effective communication skills – reports on and communicates technical issues with clarity

Desirable criteria:

• Experience working in a commercial/industry environment
• Knowledge and experience of antibody display technologies.
• Experience with fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS).
• Experience in antibody library design and construction.
