As a Laboratory Automation Technician at OXGENE you will carry out a range of processes to provide support for a large number of automation platforms for diverse applications, including molecular biology (DNA extraction, PCR, colony-picking), cell culture (imaging, cherry-picking, subculture) and analytics (qPCR, ELISA), with a view to increasing departmental efficiency.

 

This will involve working closely within a small dedicated team, and with other laboratory-based colleagues to assure all automated laboratory tasks are run to a high standard and meet any quality standards in place. An ability to follow key processes at high throughput is essential, as well as confidence in teaching and supervising others.


Key responsibilities:

  • Assist OXGENE employees with day-to-day operation of the automated equipment.
  • Performing weekly and monthly verification of automated equipment.
  • Inventory management.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of robotic platforms.
  • Assisting the laboratory automation team with the development of methods.
  • Authoring controlled documentation surrounding Automated procedures.



Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • A BSc in life or physical sciences or equivalent experience in a similar role
  • Able to demonstrate a keen interest in laboratory automation and the desire to gain more experience within the fields of laboratory automation and robotics.
  • Strong IT skills and an interest in programming.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail


Desirable:

This is an entry-level position and, as such, no prior experience working with liquid-handling robots is expected. Full training on our automation platforms will be provided, however experience in the following areas would be advantageous:


  • Working in controlled manufacturing environments, or an understanding and appreciation of GLP.
  • Experience in use and writing of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • LIMS/ELN experience.
  • Carrying out calibration and day to day maintenance on laboratory equipment.
  • Some practical experience of molecular biology or cell culture techniques – as the Automation team is highly interdisciplinary.
  • Laboratory experience beyond a BSc would be desirable but non-essential
