You will contribute to the development and commercialisation of OXGENE technologies, advancing the delivery of our customers new therapeutics, by driving the discovery, development and manufacture of innovative cell and gene therapy solutions.


Your primary role will be to design and execute experiments in line with OXGENE’s commercial priorities and objectives. Scientists work closely with internal and external stakeholders to define and execute project goals and deliverables in line with planned project objectives. You will demonstrate strict adherence to standard operating procedures, work instructions and QC processes. You will be responsible for accurate record keeping ensuring data integrity and that work complies with recommended Health and Safety guidelines.


You will contribute towards internal and commercial projects focused on OXGENE’s high-throughput cell engineering pipeline. Candidates will have a molecular biology background including gene-editing, enthusiasm about team-work and a drive for operational excellence.


Key Responsibilities 

  • Designing, recommending and ensuring the highest quality execution of experiments
  • Making recommendations for optimising procedures and processes, focusing on data integrity and accuracy
  • Troubleshooting and analysing experimental results and using this analysis to make suitable recommendations
  • Drafting patents with support from more experienced colleagues
  • Recommending appropriate publications and co-writing of papers for submission to these publications
  • Keeping up to date with relevant scientific literature and developments, appropriate to team projects and priorities
  • Supervising less experienced members of the team and supporting their training and development


Essential Criteria 

  • Minimum MSc in relevant discipline (Molecular Biology, Genetics or Cell Biology) plus demonstrable relevant laboratory experience
  • Strong molecular biology skills, including PCR, (q)RT-PCR, transfections, flow cytometry and western blotting
  • Experience in the fields of lentivirus or adeno-associated viruses (AAV)
  • Expertise in mammalian cell culture, including primary human cells
  • Self-motivated; demonstrated success in delivering assigned tasks according to timelines
  • Strong team playing skills (ideally in multidisciplinary teams)


Desirable Criteria 

  • Experience in a commercial/industrial setting
  • Experience using CRISPR based gene-editing approaches, or related genome engineering technologies
  • Experience in generation of standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Experience in using robotic liquid handling and automation systems
