Role Overview:

The candidate will provide technical support to a multi-disciplinary group of scientists and external research collaborators to develop viral gene therapy vectors. Working under the direction of the Senior Group Leader and senior members of the team, you will use the pioneering technologies developed at OXGENE to deliver research on viral design and discovery. Projects will be varied, and activities will span laboratory-based work, data collection and analysis, and presentation of research findings within the company.


The candidate must be able to work independently following instruction, and training as required. You will be expected to keep excellent laboratory records, and to work in a safe and responsible manner following standard operating practices and all safety guidelines.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the strategic direction of the group by conducting experimental laboratory work to a high standard, including but not limited to:
    • DNA cloning with plasmid vector
    • Mammalian cell maintenance
    • Mammalian cell transfection
    • Production of viral vector stocks
    • Characterisation of viral vector stocks
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for all procedures performed.
  • Analyse data, write reports, and present findings regularly at team meetings
  • Work to tight deadlines.
  • Actively engage in own career and skills development.
  • Keep up to date with advancements in the field.
  • To adhere strictly to established quality standards, essential for on-going activities


Essential Criteria:

  • BSc in relevant discipline, or equivalent higher education qualifications,
  • Experience working in a commercial/industrial environment is preferred but not essential
  • Willingness to work with viral vectors (adenovirus, lentivirus, AAV)
  • High-level attention to detail, and adherence to quality-related aspects

Desirable criteria:

  • Standard mammalian cell culture techniques and handling of both adherent and suspension cells
  • Experience in DNA cloning with plasmid vectors (restriction enzyme digestions, PCR, transformation of competent cells, preparation of DNA stocks from bacterial cultures)
